Squash + Education Alliance

A National Model of Youth Development

The Squash + Education Alliance (SEA) is the umbrella organization for urban squash, the out of school youth development model that combines the sport of squash with academics, mentoring, community service, and college placement for public school students from low-income families.

Urban squash’s intensive, year-round programming, which takes places after school, on the weekends and in the summer, engages students from the time they join in elementary or middle school until they graduate from college. Following an ‘inch wide, mile deep’ approach to youth development, SEA programs strive to have a transformative impact on the lives of their participants.

The first urban squash and education program was launched in Boston in 1996. Today, there are 20 programs accredited by SEA that together enroll more than 2,000 elementary, middle, high school and college students.
